CALL FOR PAPERS

With over 200 new reactors proposed globally, how will the global nuclear industry fulfil its potential and get new reactors accepted, commissioned and built to time and on budget?

Reinvigorated by concerns over climate change and energy security, the nuclear power agenda has expanded greatly in recent years. This success is bringing its own challenges. With more than 50 reactors under construction worldwide, and many more planned to come online by 2020, demand for the human and physical resources integral to the successful construction and operation of new nuclear power plants will continue to increase rapidly.

The positioning of nuclear energy as part of a low carbon energy mix has now largely been accepted by politicians and the general public in many countries. However, if the nuclear industry worldwide is to maintain this momentum it must be able to provide an effective and cohesive supply chain.

The WNA Symposium is the nuclear industry’s premier event - an annual conference attended by over 800 leaders and specialists from more than 30 countries. The Symposium brings together the nuclear industry and its major stakeholders to discuss the practicalities of building new nuclear power plants.

We welcome Papers from within industry and also from external specialists in universities, financial institutions etc. We are particularly interested in proposals from emerging nuclear countries and younger specialists.

The topics that we are particularly looking to cover include but will not be limited to
• How will the global supply chain address the human resource challenges and manufacturing bottlenecks which it is facing?
• What is being done, and what should be done, to further the public confidence and governmental support which will facilitate investment?
• How are stakeholders working together to prepare the industrial and regulatory infrastructure to ensure the successful and timely completion of new nuclear projects?

We are particularly interested in proposals from emerging nuclear countries.

In selecting Papers, we will give preference to those which address topics generically, by providing a broad analysis of the world situation, at the expense of those which seek primarily to advertise a company or its products.

How to Submit a Proposal

Proposals for Papers must be submitted by 4 May 2010. Detailed guidelines on the requirements for presentations are available from the website.

Proposals can be submitted online, and an offline proposal form is also available from that page.

The selection of Papers will be made by 1 June 2010. Please note that successful applicants must be prepared to submit a formal paper, due by 31 July, which will be published in the Symposium Proceedings made available to all delegates at the opening of the Symposium, and also give a 12-15 minute presentation, supported by PowerPoint slides, on Thursday 16 or Friday 17 September 2010.
